Charles Turner

As a former military man, Charles Turner knows how to make fitness work when you’re both short on time and short on equipment. Charles was in the Marines for about four years and during that time he worked his way from being a basic rifleman to an infantry squad leader. He was in charge of 12 other men and was stationed in Camp Pendleton. As if that weren’t enough, he did two tours of duties overseas protecting our country.

We talked with Charles about his time in the military, and how he and his fellow Marines worked out when in the field and short of fitness tools. Charles told us that since some of the men he was working with were engineers, they would create creative ways to workout. One particularly useful tool was the weight bar they created. Taking two ammo cans and placing them on either side of a big metal bar, the men created a weight to be used for curls. If the bar was too light, they simply added more sand to the ammo cans. Charles also said that because they were short on time for work-outs (they were over there protecting our country!!!), their fitness regime was to get as much in in as little time as possible. To do this, they would always stay moving, as to keep their heart-rate up. To work out his legs, Charles said flutter kicks were his go-t0. He now uses this when working out his personal training clients.
